Historically, Native American civil rights were eliminated
with the Settler's habitation in America.
United State's President Andrew Jackson successfully
forced Native Americans from Tribal Lands in the Trail of Tears.
Jackson sited railroad and expansion reasons for this move. Ironically,
the same freedom on which our country was founded was denied to the inhabitants
of America.
Although pitiful attempts like the Fort
Laramie Treaty of 1868 allowed male Native Americans to file homestead
claims.
Other lawsuits seeked to replace the damage previously
accrued by Land Treaties.
AIM
American Indian Movement originated in 1968 to focus on problems of
Native Americans integration in urban cities. AIM served as a mentor
for youths providing services and programs.
